WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO A NEWBORN SESSION?
For newborns, you really don't need to bring too much. I have all the baskets, backdrops, diaper covers and wraps that we need. If there is something special that you'd like included in the sitting, (a special blanket, hat or accessory) I'd suggest bringing that. I also like for the baby to have a pacifier to help soothe him/her in between poses.
CAN WE BRING SIBLINGS TO A NEWBORN SHOOT?
Siblings are always welcome to join us for the newborn shoot. I prefer to photograph the siblings first. If possible, I suggest Dad or a grandparent, babysitter etc. take the older sibling back home after the sibling shots. Siblings are welcome to stay at the shoot and play with the toys or iPad that I have, but the studio space is small and I don't want you to feel rushed through the newborn session because big brother or sister is ready to go home. Remember, a newborn session takes at least two hours!
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE WE CAN DO TO PREPARE?
Yes! Although this is easier said than done, if you can try your best to keep the baby awake before the session, that will help us have an extra sleepy baby during the shoot, which makes posing baby much easier.
WHAT ABOUT FEEDING THE BABY?
It's best to feed right beforehand, or even once you arrive at my home studio (you will have privacy). Feeding the baby right before the shoot is helpful because a full belly will help him or her to sleep. It's okay if the baby needs another feeding at some point during the session. I try to provide a cozy space for you to relax during the process. Also, keep in mind that the temperature in the room is around 75 degrees, so try not to dress too warm.
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR FOR FAMILY PORTRAITS?
Try to avoid wild prints and patterns, shirts with words or distracting images, clashing colors and matching completely. Keeping it simple and classic is always a great idea! Try to find a common thread to create a cohesive look. Wear something that makes you feel your best. I think adding color is great! Once you have booked your session, I will e-mail you my LDP Style Guide for additional tips!
WHAT IF MY CHILDREN ARE NOT COOPERATING?
Its ok, babies and children are unpredictable! We'll follow their lead, the best
shots are rarely perfectly posed...and bribing helps too! ; )
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
We can reschedule. I try to offer dates within two weeks. Keep in mind, May
through November are the busiest times of the year for photoshoots on the weekends. Newborn shoots are always inside, so rain is not a problem.
SHOULD WE BRING PROPS? CAN THE DOG JOIN OUR SHOOT?
You're welcome to bring fun props to the shoot if you had something specific in mind, however I don't provide them. I find props to be a bit distracting. I want you and your family to be the focus!
For newborn shoots, I have a nice selection of wraps, diaper covers, hats and bows, but you're welcome to bring additional items. The dog may join us for an outdoor shoot as well, no extra charge.
Just keep in mind the time limits, we don't want to spend 20 minutes chasing the dog. In my experience, it works well to invite a friend to help watch the dog for the remainder of the shoot once he or she has made their big debut!
WHEN AND WHERE WILL WE SEE THE PHOTOS?
The rates include an online proofing album to view and purchase prints. When the images are complete,
I will e-mail you the link to these images.
I try to be as quick as possible with my turnaround time, but you can be sure to see your family or newborn images within two weeks.
